Second place went to Chuck Johnson with three wins and 3.0 points. Third place went to Joe Dean Veal.

Krish Kumar, a fifth-grade student from Tulsa’s University School, won first place in the U1600 section with a 3.5 point total, and Marlow resident Jared Ray Ellis, also with 3.5 points, came in second due to the computer tie-break award  system. Third place went to Shawnee resident Donald Winslow with 3.0 points. He tied with Challengers Chess Club President Roger Baxter, but the tie-break system award went to Winslow.

The U1200/unrated section was won by Sand Springs resident Ralph Ward, who won all four rounds with a 4.0 point total. New tournament chess player Ankur Mody of Edmond came in second with 3.0 points, and Monroe Jeffery of Shawnee scored 3.0 points but due to the computer tie-break system was awarded third.

The next Challengers Chess Club tournament will be Nov. 21 at Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore. For more information, call Tommy W. Hay at 512-4916.
